It’s Ok To Peel Mushrooms, Promise
Some might think it strange or time-consuming, but ever since I can remember I have always taken the time to peel mushrooms before using them in any dish. It’s such a prominent part of my culinary routine that I even make a point to by the largest button mushrooms I can find so that the process is a little easier. The bigger they are, the easier t is to remove the stem and get your thumb in the middle to start a clean peel.

One of the bonuses of course is that you get to enjoy some lovely mushroom broth to use in other dishes later on. I certainly don’t do this every time but when the schedule permits, those lovely peelings go into a pot of boiling water with some bay leaf and peppercorns and voila, a flavourful broth to freeze or use right away in some lovely side dish!
